EXCLUSIVE: It’s official. Eran Creevy’s Collide is hitting the Open Road. IM Global and Open Road Films today confirmed what had been expected for some time now, with the distributor acquiring the U.S. rights to the Nicholas Hoult-starrer. Open Road chief exec Tom Ortenberg and IM Global founder and chief Stuart Ford announced the film will open in America on April 1 next year.

The film also stars Felicity Jones (The Theory O Everything), Anthony Hopkins and Ben Kingsley. It was financed by IM Global and China’s DMG Entertainment, with additional financing by Sycamore Pictures. Joel Silver produced via his Silver Pictures banner, along with Ben Pugh and Rory Aitken via 42, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones via Automatik, and Action Concept. The feature shot entirely in Germany with support from DFFF, the German Federal Film Fund, and NRW, the North Rhine-Westphalia funding entity.

In the film, previously known as Autobahn, a young American couple Casey (Hoult) and Juliette (Jones) are plunged into an adrenaline-pumping game of cat and mouse across Germany when they find themselves caught between two ruthless feuding criminals (Hopkins and Kingsley).

The film had originally been set for release by Relativity. Those plans were waylaid following that company’s bankruptcy, allowing IM Global to take it back and do the deal with Open Road instead.

IM Global has several features in the pipelines including Billy Ray’s The Secret In Their Eyes starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts, which STX releases November 20; Civil War drama The Free State of Jones, again with STX and starring Matthew McConaughey; and Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge, with Cross Creek, starring Andrew Garfield, Vince Vaughn and Sam Worthington. Lionsgate/Summit is releasing that domestically.
