The first trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has leaked online, according to reports.

At the end of 2015 Mirror Online broke the very first pictures of the forthcoming Star Wars standalone movie , starring Academy Award-nominated Felicity Jones and martial arts legend Donnie Yen.

Those spoilers showed the cast and crew gathering at Elstree Studios and whet the appetite of fans, ahead of the film’s 2016 release.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will tell the tale of the Rebels who stole the plans to the Death Star, and now it seems the very first trailer is online.

Above you can see the clips of the footage that have Star Wars fans in a frenzy.

In the teaser, which was shown at Disney’s annual shareholder meeting, fans were treated to the very first look at a black stormtrooper, possibly called Death Troopers.

The clip, also shows the first image of new chrome stormtroopers, reminiscent of Captain Phasma from The Force Awakens.

After an image of two AT-ATs appear the clip showed lucky viewers a glimpse of Jones’ character on what looked like the inside of a ship or shuttle and her arm up holding on to a hatch/ramp open behind her, according to Comicbookmovie.com.

Although the footage could be a fake, it is believed the first trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will premiere before Batman v Superman – which is released later this month on 25 March.

Speaking at the meeting, Disney CEO Bob Iger said, “It’s our first original standalone Star Wars story. It’s about a band of rebels who are plotting to steal the plans for the Death Star.”

Explaining to the shareholders the film is set “right before the events in the very first Star Wars movie,” Iger told the crowd “I can’t wait for you to see it; it’s in theaters this December.”

The cast includes Oscar-nominee Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen – who recently posted a picture of the helmets from the film on Instagram – Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk and Riz Ahmed.

Jones , who played Jane Hawking in the Theory of Everything, will take on the female lead as one of the rebel soldiers in the movie.

The film’s British director Gareth Edwards previously said : “It comes down to a group of individuals that don’t have magical powers that have to somehow bring hope to the galaxy.

“It’s about the fact that God’s not coming to save us,” said Edwards. “The absence of the Jedi hangs over the movie.”

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is released on 16 December 2016
